Expert, Comprehensive Eye Exams for All Ages
Our priority here at Lifetime Vision Source is to provide top-quality eyecare services for the entire family. Through our comprehensive eye exams, we can detect underlying vision problems promptly and provide effective treatment options. It’s important to understand that an eye exam is not just necessary when you’re experiencing vision problems. Even people with seemingly healthy vision should have their eyes examined regularly—ideally every two years, depending on the condition of your eyes and the recommendation of your eye doctor.
What to Expect During an Eye Exam
A comprehensive eye exam involves a series of procedures that give our optometrists the most accurate picture of your current visual health and acuity. These procedures are administered in a comfortable room and include the following:
Pupil Dilation: This is the most accurate way to assess the health of your eyes, since dilated pupils provide a wider viewing angle to examine the inner structures of the eye. We’ll check for signs of diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, macular degeneration and optic nerve damage—all of which require immediate treatment. We also test for glaucoma using methods such as tonometry to measure your intraocular pressure.
Eye Function: This test checks for any mechanical or neurological barriers to proper communication between your eyes and brain to create clear visual images. We will examine the alignment of your eyes, as well as their ability to focus, move in unison, track objects and more. We may also administer a peripheral vision test to measure your depth/color perception and muscle control of your eyes. This test lets us see if you would benefit from visual therapy or other corrective treatments.
Pediatric Eye Exams: We believe in fostering strong visual health practices from the youngest age, ensuring your child’s eyes are healthy from their very first year of life and beyond! We’ll check your child’s refractive status for signs of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Our pediatric eye exams also evaluate your child’s:
- Eye alignment
- Eye movement skills
- Health of the front and back of the eye
- Unique needs; we take extra care in serving children with special needs, including but not limited to autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and other conditions.
